Evaluation is an integral part of our therapy services. Using the latest speech and language assessments, we are able to determine individual strengths and stretches in order to create treatment plans tailored to each child. A comprehensive speech and language assessment is required to begin speech and language therapy. If your child has had a speech and language evaluation within the last year, let us know. We are happy to work with previous therapists and collaborate with other professionals to best support every child! If you are unsure if your child needs a speech and language evaluation, visit our FAQ page to learn more about developmental milestones or give us a call. We are happy to answer any questions you may have!

Lakeside Speech and Language Therapy offers both individual and small group therapy sessions for toddler, preschool, and school aged children. We believe that therapy should be a fun, engaging, and positive experience. We work to uncover each child's individual interests and and learning style in order to target skills in a motivating way.

Hanen & Parent Coaching

Father Playing with Son

Young children learn through participating in conversations and activities with their parents, important adults, and peers. Research has shown that the involvement of parents in a child’s speech and language intervention is critical and that the earlier parents are involved, the better the outcome for the child. Therefore, we work together with parents, providing them with the tools and strategies needed to facilitate successful interactions and encourage speech and language development.

Christine is certified to offer The Hanen Centre’s It Takes Two to Talk, a program designed to aid parents of young children (ages birth to five years) with language delays in becoming involved in their child’s intervention. Click here for more information.

PROMPT

PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets)

The PROMPT technique is an evidence-based treatment approach, which focuses on the whole child. Communication is a culmination of several domains, including social-emotional (the ability to connect with others), cognitive-linguistic (the ability to understand language), and physical-sensory (the ability to produce words, phrases, and connected speech). The PROMPT technique is a multi-sensory approach targeting specific motor patterns in functional speech interactions. Learning new motor skills takes lots of repetition and practice and family members are essential for providing support!

Christine is trained in both Introduction to PROMPT Technique, as well as Bridging PROMPT Technique to Intervention.

Teletherapy

Teletherapy Services

Studying on a Computer

Teletherapy is an approved service delivery model by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is an effective way to provide effective and safe speech and language therapy services from the comfort of your home. Teletherapy will look differently depending on the age of your child.

BIRTH TO THREE YEARS: As it is difficult for children this young to attend to a screen for an extended period of time, therapy will focus on interacting with the parent. Parents are coached during play and daily routines, learning strategies and techniques to encourage and support speech and language development.

FOUR TO SIX YEARS: Children will interact directly with the speech and language therapist, participating in activities to target their goals. Children this age will most likely require a parent to sit with them during the session in order to manage technology.

SEVEN YEARS AND OLDER: Children will interact directly with the speech and language therapist and can often participate in the entire session independently.

If you are interested in scheduling an evaluation or therapy sessions via telepractice, please contact us!
